TheNerfsmith
Hi all, In planning my parts list for my rear disc brake swap I have run into a roadblock with the backing plates. I've heard a lot of conflicting information about it and what seems to be the option I want to take is to swap in rear ZJ brakes since I have a Dana 44. I'd like to get new backing plates and parking brake stuff since I'd rather them just be clean and reliable. I also want to take the time to refresh the whole system due to its age and its more economical to do front and rear at the same time. With this in mind, what backing plates should I be looking for and is this brake kit compatible with my 89? (The kit is for a 95-98 Grand Cherokee). AZJeff
When I did the conversion on my 89 MJ with the D44, I used the Teraflex kit. that kit appears to be combination of parts from ZJ and KJ parts. I had to take the two circular spacers they provided for the backing plate and shave the thickness a bit. I also had to devise a bracket to support the axle end of the flexible caliper hose. Othwise, the kit was pretty much plug and play. I converted my parking brake to the handle/lever type from an XJ, and used cables from a KJ to run between the handle and the actuator lever on the backing plate.
