bhorocks
i got a qoute yesterday for 50 to cut and weld and 50 to balance. still seems expensive considering it doesn't take that long to do. heck it's a machine doing the welding! I Should open my own driveshaft shop for that cost!
Geonovast
Those machines are expensive to buy and upkeep. They have to pay for it somehow. There's also labor and shop supplies. $100 isn't bad.
bhorocks
good thing i waited.. came out measured at 52.25.. only 6 inches shorter...
bhorocks
well, got it back today and i'll be darned if they still have it to long. put the thing in but I don't even have 1/2 inch compression.. closer to 1/4. super tight fit. barely went past the flange.. i hope they stand behind their work cuz it need to be shorter.... maybe by an inch even. Geonovast
Hmm...interesting. I actually ended up with a tad more slip than I did when it was 2wd. As long as they cut it to the length you told them to, they don't have to stand behind anything, because they did what they were supposed to do. If they measured and cut, you might be able to get away with them doing it again for free.
bhorocks
yeah the only measurement i gave them was how they wanted it done on their website. from seal on tcase to most outside edge of yoke on axle. done that and it is a super tight fit. kind of bummed i wanted to drive today. I actaully paid more because this shop was recommended to me. I could have got it for 50 less.
Geonovast
Did you specifity where you wanted the measurement take? If you'd measured physical length of the shaft, and they cut it to measure U-joint center to U-joint center, that would probably make it about an inch longer than you wanted. You could always lift the truck more...
bhorocks
i will be going 1 more inch in the back but i am still worried about the compression of it. it is way to tight there. i am going to hit them up tomomow and see what they will do for me.
