I've had this for about a month. decided to wait a bit to post it until i knew what was gonna happen to it. purchased is as a donor to use parts off of for my 88. my kids friend sent me the link on marketplace. guy was asking 500 no title no engine. i responded 2 hours after the post went live and picked it up the next day. he had a bunch of other people asking about it and even offering more, but sold it to me at asking. rest of drivetrain was in the bed along with the header panel, although i think its broken. havent dug it out yet, but found a piece floating around that looks like it is.

when i asked the guy what the deal with the title was he informed me he was like the third person to get it without a title but it wasnt stolen. i ran a vin check and sure enough it was clean. when i brought it home my 12 yo daughter was excited and thought id actually bought her one since shed been saying she wanted one. she was rather disappointed when i informed her no title so no way we could build it for her but id keep looking.

giving it its first interior cleaning, before closing it up for the winter, i found an old registration and decided a little internet detective work was in order. tracked down the current owner and texting a couple random phone numbers, the owner a nice 73 yo gentleman responded. said hed sold it 5 years ago but never did a title transfer because he thought he was selling it for scrap/junkyard etc. and hed lost the title. he went out got a duplicate title, and as of last night transferred it to me.

so 1989 pioneer, 4.0 (was), 5 speed, 2wd short bed.

little does my 12 yo know she's getting a Comanche for Christmas. it does need a fair amount of work, floors are rotted, unibody looks good, wiring harness was cut when engine removed, wheel wells on bed need replaced, and its getting a 4wd swap, and unfortunately she's probably gonna want me to paint it white, rather than keep the dark vivid red.

her actual Christmas present will be another cut wiring harness in a box and a set of service manuals. she has 4 years till she gets a license so plenty of time for me to teach her to wire, weld, well both be learning paint, and do the mechanical work.
