Mystery Transmission sensor/ Transmission issue.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a 1987 Jeep Comanche 2.5 liter inline 4. Manual transmission. It’s been driving good except yesterday I got a bad case of death wobble. I shifted out of gear and into neutral as I came to a stop. I then attempted to drive again however, the truck wouldn’t move in gear, as if it were stuck in neutral. I then got underneath and noticed a “boot “ type of connector to an unknown sensor had been disconnected and was melted on the exhaust. This was on the passenger side of the transmission. Maybe this is the issue? Here is a picture of the sensor the connector goes to. I can’t figure out the name of it though. Thoughts? Or anything else I should check that could be causing the issue? I don’t think it’s the clutch since it was riding fine before the death wobble, but any help/input is appreciated

That’s the up-shift lamp switch. It hits a certain RPM and turns on a light on the cluster to tell you when to shift to the next gear for fuel economy.

Most likely not my issue then, but thanks for that info.
