Anthi4078
Hey everyone, I’m having a very mind boggling electrical issue with my 87 4.0. It started last night on my way home when I was waiting to turn at a light with the music up loud. Randomly just sitting there the radio shut off for a second and the rebooted and I had lost turn signals. When I got home I found out the brake light fuse had also blown. So I figured I must have had the radio up too loud or something and drew too much current so I replaced the two fuses. Later that night I was driving again and it was fine for a few turns/stops and then at another one it repeated what had happened previously. I gave up and drove the rest of the way with them blown. Today on the way to work I replaced them again and turned the radio down to 0 for the whole trip. I made it almost the whole way (about 22km) and then waiting to turn at a light again it repeated with blowing both fuses. Unfortunately I wasn’t watching the radio so I don’t know if it shut off. After work I replaced just the brake light fuse and after a few minutes of driving that blew so then I pulled over and replaced just the turn signal fuse and it worked for about one turn and then I put them on to see if they were still working and one blink and then the radio cut out and fuse blew. This is really confusing me as they seem to be independent from each other but both involve the rear lights and somehow the radio. Also the headlights being on or off doesn’t seem to affect it. Sorry for the long post but any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Andre

I had similar issues at the po's trailer light harness splice and the plate bulb. The bad splice was my issue. It took me a bit to find since dry conditions seemed to never cause problems. This was it. Went under last night and found that I had pinched it between the frame and the bed. Pulled it out of there and couldn’t visibly see any rub throughs although I imagine there’s probably one in there somewhere. Took it on a test drive leaving the signal on and repetitively tapping the brakes and nothing blew. Also was fine all today. Thinking about it afterwards it always seemed to happen turning left so I’d imagine the problem is with the wire for the Left Turn/Brake.
