upgrade interior to 2000ish cherokee? yes/no?

Recommended Posts

Found 4 97-2000ish cherokees at a parts yard today that all have their dashes intact in phoenix. Asked the counter and they want 30 dollars on half wednesday for the whole dash assembly.

is it worth it to pull it?? and if so how hard? I know it looks good but i can't decide if i want to do the work so hopefully everyone can help me decide!

also going to pull the buckets seeing how they are in great shape! If you live in the phoenix area hit me a pm and i'll tell you where to get em!

yes, it's worth it at that price,

BUT

you need the interior harness for the dash, the heater assembly for it and controls, the speedo cluster and such, and the correct sending units for the gauges (reverse polarity gauges. you'll probably need the engine bay harness too. hopefully you have a 4.0 already), as well as the mounting tabs for it and the heater vent tubes etc.

it can be installed, it's really not that hard, it just will take a bit of time to get it done

I did it when I put in my 2001 motor. It definately is a lot of work, but it's worth it. You'll have to custom mount it completely. Nothing matches up. I had to build a custom mount for the 2001 steering column, that was a royal pain in the...but again, worth it. I say go for it.

there's no need to custom mount anything if you get the bracketry from the cherokee.

I guess I can't speak for every comanche/cherokee, but on mine, the tabs for mounting the dash (right under the windshield) were WAY off. and the two lower bolts (right near the kick panels) were completly different. It might have been that it was a 2001 dash. Jeep may have changed all kinds of things knowing or unknowning they were going to can the XJ. Either way, There was nothing I could take off the cherokee that would make my dash just bolt in.

As far as the custom steering column, I could have take the XJ aluminum mount and done some custom tabs off the fire wall, but in my case, I would have had to modify the firewall to do it. That's why I custom built mine.

I'm sure i can do it. I just read some of the forums and it doesn't sound easy for sure. mostly getting all the gauges to work sounds like the difficult part

I hope you didn't take that the wrong way, like I was saying I thought you wernt able to do it or anything
