MWinland
Right after I change oil, my '89 MJ leaks like mad, but once the oil level hits just above the add line on the dipstick, it stops leaking almost completely. It's done this since I owned it, and I've come to expect it, but winter is here and I have some time to chase down the problem. I'm starting simple with a new valve cover gasket first because I can see oil leaking there. What else is a common problem that is commonly overlooked? Also, anything I should watch for on the valve cover gasket change?
MJ'87
AH HA! a common problem among the 4 cylinders. if you were to take the cover off and put it on a perfectly flat surface you will probably see that your plastic valve cover is warped  . i have looked all over for a replacement metal cover but i havent had any luck :dunno: . if you happen to come across one, let me know where you got it. comancheon33
I just bought my aluminum 2.5 valve off ebay. The seller had just replaced 2.5 in his YJ with a small block. I stole it at the whopping buy it now price of 15 bucks. Solved my oil leak except I need the newer CCV adaptor for it.
