mjstiltheydie
Does anyone know what the u-bolts holding the spring to the axle are supposed to be torqued to? To make things worse I put in an 8.8. Any help would be appreciated. Bruce
CWLONGSHOT
You could find it with an internet search on bolt torque specs. But I wouldnt worry about specfic torque on these. Tighten thm up good, not crazy tight. Then after a couple hundred miles they will streach requiring re tightening anyhow. Its WAY more important you recheck them after a couple hundred miles than to worry about proper torque.... CW
Mitch
does time after they were torqued count? because I SOA'd my axle about 3 months ago, but have only driven it a few miles... (pretty much trail only) Would sitting allow them to strech? or only driving?
Twisty
does time after they were torqued count? because I SOA'd my axle about 3 months ago, but have only driven it a few miles... (pretty much trail only) Would sitting allow them to strech? or only driving? I believe that time would count too. The bolts are still under extreme pressure, causing them to strech. MrShoeBoy
Its good practice to check them after every other trip for safety and minimize breakage regardless if its trail only or DD. Before and after a long weekend offroad or a hard day I check all the bolts on my rig cause I have had several bolts work themselvs loose on the suspension even though they where torqued to proper spec. Off the top of my head I think 9/16 U bolts for a Ford 8.8 are torqued to 80ftlbs. Thats what I used to do at work and havnt had one come back thats failed due to improper torque.
