Radio and interior lights not working properly in '91 Comanche

Recommended Posts

Not even a week ago, I purchased my first car, a 1991 Comanche, base model with a 4 cyl and a 5 speed manual and only 91,105 miles. It came with the few dents and scratches of a first car. Anyway, the radio and interior light (one is missing) will not work. My dad and I replaced a fuse on the FM/AM/Cassette player, and the accent lights for the buttons come on, but the clock or radio (The antenna is broken, but no sound will come out of the speakers anyway) will not function at all. We've looked at fuses in the fusebox and everything seems good. Anyone ever have this problem or have an idea of what is wrong? Also, where could I find a replacement to match or closely match the radio that came with it?

When you mentioned you checked the fuses, did you make sure they were getting power? The fusebox is a potential problem spot on any manual Comanche due to clutch fluid leakage. If they are, my next step would be to make sure the radio is getting power on both its constant and ignition switched circuits, as well as ground. If the radio is getting power on both circuits as well as ground, the radio is bad. A simple multimeter or test light will be fine.

The radio is on the dome light circuit, so any problems getting power with the dome light circuit will also affect the radio.

As to radios.. if you're interested in going OEM, look in my signature. There's a big list of all of the factory options there.
