omega_rugal
i know this tranny is not used in any MJ or XJ and so doesn`t belong here but i bet someone here can shed some light on this questions - i read in another forum that this tranny, like the AW4, is electronicly controlled, and that when the TCM is disconnected or not working, the tranny will manually shift with the lever (D, 2nd and 1st) but no overdrive since it`s on a separate tail unit, is this correct? update: apparently if the tcm is off, you have R, D and 2 but not first, no automatic upshift or downshift... - the 44RE and 46RE are identical to the 42RE except for the bellhousing which is specific for 4.0, but these have better internals that can be swapped to raise the 42RE torque rating (i saw this on a dodge forum) i`m interested in this tranny and its posibilities because i have noticed that ZJs and WJs are everywhere and many are sold as scrap with many salvajeable parts (trannies and TCs, front axles, even sold as a package) but XJs are less abundant and people hardly ever throws them away unless they are damaged beyond repair... as always looking for options for my jeep addiction...
