jerseYJoe
So I have an 86 2.5 5 speed that recently got new steel rims installed with the old 31s that were on the truck. Well I drove it home from crap boys and now front passenger wheel has a bad wobble around, but not limited to, 50mph. I thought maybe they balanced the tire wrong so I put on a known good tire and wheel of the same size and no change. I also replaced the whole wheel hub and bearing assembly after this because they screwed up the studs while installing the wheel. Still no change. My question is what would the next step be? I will be replacing all Ball joints and steering components in the near future, but I'm moving soon and don't have the extra cash for all of that right noe and just want to try to fix this problem first. My thinking is change Ball joints, but would like some opinions. Thanks in advance!
gogmorgo
Jack the wheel off the ground. Grab it at 12 and 6 o'clock and pull back and forth. If there's play, it's most likely ball joints. If there's play at 9 and 3, it's probably tie rods. If there's play at both, likely a bad wheel bearing. You can also check other steering and suspension components for damage or play.
