SBpunk
Need some help. Have a 92 w/ AX15 and Np231 (short input) Want to install 1996+ NP242 from AW4 (medium shaft) is it possible to just bolt up or do I need to track down a short input for the 242? Just asking because finding a new cut short shaft is expensive since they didn't make them stock.
1987Comanche
I can't speak to the 242 but I looked into this extensively when i converted Georgia to 4WD. The '96-'99ish NP231s are the same for auto vs. manual and are all medium length, if memory serves. I bolted a '96 231 to my AX-15 and it worked fine. 1987Comanche
Here's the 242 listing from the '96 parts manual along with the input shaft listings. I also verified there's one 231 for both M/T and A/T '96 XJs.
SBpunk
I've gotten it figured out for the most part. The part I circled is measuring up to be .750. A little confused because the case is showing as a March 1996 production date but everything I've read show they stopped making small/long combos in 1995ish timeframe.
