SomeNew Name
I know this has been beaten to death but I searched and couldn't find anything that fit the bill.. OK well lets start from the begining..... I had removed the gas tank cause I was removing the box.. at the time of removal it was working.. Now I had did what I needed to do to the box and put it back on and then today I put the gas tank on and put a little bit of gas in her (what I thought would be enough to start it up and get it to the station) now the tank was off for about a week and was stored outside unprotected, it rained a few times but I figured the plug for the pump and sending unit was resilient enough to take some rain. I had also marked the fuel lines as to which one was the supply and which one was the return.. but my means of id'ing them was removed by my lil nefew (kid will be kids) so I don't know if maybe I mixed them up or not... but one hose had a larger diameter than the other so I assumed that the larger would be for the supply. ( am I incorrect?) I know I have the plug connected right, cause that thing is idiot proof. But long story short, I turn the key, I don't hear the pump come on.. so I checked the test port on the fuel rail and nothing is there... What can I do? how would I test to see if the pump is working? thanks in advance for your help guys! Ohh and the gas gauge is acting funny too.. it goes way past full and once it hits a certain point it starts to go back.. 4.0L 1990 SWB
fiatslug87
Pull the pump and hit it with 12 volts, if it pumps it's working. I had a similar problem, I couldn't hear the pump priming but it worked when tested as above. I then found a loose connection in the wiring harness by the e-brake. Check all the harness connections and the fuel pump relay. Not sure of tubing size, but your assumption seems logical. Good Luck.

SomeNew Name
how would I check to see if it is grounded? I'm kinda new with working on autmotive stuff.... I prefer aircraft.
87manche
put a DMM probe in the plug on the chassis side and make sure you have continuity to the frame. if you messed with the taillight harness at all that's probably the problem, the pump shares it's ground with the drivers side tail light I believe. SomeNew Name
Ohh the tail light harness isn't even on the truck yet.... it's still in a box in the garage I was going to put that on after I found out if the tank was in right..
