Fuel Issue?

Recommended Posts

It's beginning to look like it could be something other than a fuel problem. There is one more test you can do, a fuel volume test:

Capacity (Volume) Test
Relieve fuel system pressure at the fuel rail test port. Disconnect fuel line on fuel rail. Place fuel line into a graduated container. Turn to IGN and let pump run for one minute. Volume of fuel should be 1.05 qts. (1.0L) in one minute.

If fuel volume is not as specified, check for a plugged fuel filter or fuel pump inlet sock.

Also, check the fuel pump supply voltage at the fuel pump connector using the connector supply and ground pins. Can be anything from 9V - 12V depending on if you have the ballast resistor in the circuit, and/or  corrosion at the fuel pump ground behind the left tail lamp.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got tied up recently with some other projects and we had some nice weather this way, so I spent as much time out doors as possible. After getting my new grommets for the rollover shutoff valves I was able to get the new tank and pump installed on my truck. The new pump seems to have fixed the hard starting and pressure problem discovered with the fuel pressure tester. When I can get some miles on it I will also know if I have the cutting out issue, like I described earlier in this topic, was fixed. Once the snow melts here I will take the truck to town and fill the tank in hopes that my sending unit is sealed before putting my skid plate back on.
