The needle is not near the 14V mark on the voltmeter when the engine is revved up under load. I would think it should be at 14 or a little past. The other thing that I notice is, with the lights on, when I hit the brakes, the lights dim slightly, as well as when I have a turn signal on. While I have the turn signal on, the voltmeter pulses in time with the flasher, another thing I didn't think it should be doing. I'm I looking at a bad alternator, or a bad ground? 64 Cheyenne Posted July 29, 2015 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Volt meter lies. Confirm voltage at the battery with a multimeter. The flickering is still indicative of poor grounding, I'd suggest adding more grounds somewhere or checking the condition of your sockets, maybe jumper one of them to ground see if that helps with the flickering. As far as the alternator goes, if your really in doubt, take it off and go have it tested. Me I replaced my alternator when it did same as yours, no change, wasted my money.
