Blaine
87 Comanche, automatic shifter on the column okay, so I tore my column all apart, its sitting in my living room. I now have it somewhat assembled and when I release my shifter in the park position it separates my column. in reverse and neutral not so much and separates again in drive and down. any ideas would be helpful,
Comangi
The handle it's self separates it? What does separates mean? Like when you put it in park, your steering wheel spins freely?
Blaine
no it doesn't spin freely, as of now there is no steering wheel on it, its where the two halfs meet, when i pull on the shifter the seem is tight, when i let go of the shifter it pushes the two halfs slighty apart
Comangi
I wonder if there's a screw you missed, maybe something isn't tight? i assume the seam you're talking about is the plastic shroud around the column its self?
Blaine
yea it is but screw it, while messing with it last night the ignition rod came undone again, so I'm just going to get another column seeing mines is already out of it, a lot less hassle I believe
Comangi
This happened to me. mine had to be taken apart to get it to work. By the time i had it apart, it was broken worse. (i'm a dummy) Ended up buying a column with tilt, it feels like a lexus now! Good luck bud.
