Dealer installed AC wiring

Recommended Posts

Greeting fellow Comanche owners.  I am in the home stretch on installing a new A/C system.  I am now working on the wiring after all the new mechanicals are in place.

Truck:  87 4 cyl 2wd.

AC: originally dealer installed.

Problem #1:  Where does the low pressure switch connect?  The PO clipped one of the leads (pic below).  It is a brown/blk wire which joins an all black wire through a fusable link?  The PO clipped it at the black wire.  I have no idea where this should connect.   The other wire (all black) from the low pressure switch, I have connected to the thermostat which monitors if the evaporator is icing up.  Not sure if that is correct.

I have the wiring diagram from the manual, but it that is for factory AC.  I am having trouble figuring out the dealer ac wiring.

Thanks.

The problem is that the wiring diagram probably doesn't exist. I have an '87 with dealer-installed air. It's definitely NOT factory air -- although I believe it was made by a company named "Factory Air," which may have been an affiliate or subsidiary of AMC back then. It worked, and it looked similar to factory-installed a/c, but it was pretty much different.

I'm thinking seriously about removing mine and putting in the real factory air out of an '87 XJ donor vehicle.

OK, I'm going to suck it up and and build this out.  Ive got a bunch of schematics and developed a circuit.

My next question:  Is the pic below the pin-out below for the ECU plug or the C101?  If its the ECU, anyone have the pin-out of the C101?  I need to locate the 22, 30, & 34 wires from the ECU.  These, per my pile of schematics are the A/C controls.  I want to trace them to their termination so I can connect my A/C wiring.

I added AC to my 87 2.5 as well. I found the wiring for the dealer installed AC in the downloadable 1988 FSM. The compressor power wire was already there and I think the low pressure connector. I found the dealer installed AC connector and added what I didn't have using the 88 diagrams. Worked great.
