Dave_S
Hello all, I've been a lurker here for a while, but I finally have a reason to sign up proper. This past weekend, I bought a 1990 MJ. Not in the best condition, but I have wanted one for quite a while now and I love a project. I live in SW VA and currently have two other Jeeps and have had others in the past. My daily driver is a 2002 TJ named Dirtball and I have a purple 97 ZJ named Grimace. But enough with that, here are pics of the new addition: I have high hopes for this guy but with my work schedule, it may take a while. I will update you guys with progress if you want but it will not be as often as I would like. :D This weekend, I'm going to pull the carpet, get some of the running bugs worked out and eliminate all the unnecessary wiring. It seems like every previous owner of this thing has bolted something to it and then took it off and wired something in and then took it out. -Dave
Dave_S
Dirtball and Grimace, just in case you were curious: Dirtball has new red letter Grabbers coming in today. :D
Breven52
Where at in SW VA? I'm from Kingsport TN, about 15 minutes from Gate City VA. Good looking project!
Dave_S
Hillsville. I'm about 2 hours from you. Thanks!
Dave_S
Finally had a chance to spend a few hours with the MJ. I removed the seats and carpet. It was a thin piece of carpet that someone had screwed to the floor. (More drain holes for me  ) The floor looked decent I need to clean it up and spray it. I also took out a speaker box from behind the seat, a cb radio, and what seemed like miles of extra wiring from said speakers and CB plus other items that must have been installed and removed previously. Bonus: I found a brand new water pump and inlet behind the seat. Please forgive the ipod pics.
87Warrior
I see a beauty in the rough. Especially with a D44 rear end! Welcome to the club.
Dave_S
Thanks 87Warrior. I've wanted one for years. I'm going to take my time and treat this one right. I tracked down one of the previous owners and he told me that it has the Big Ton suspension. Can anyone look at the spring pack and tell me if that is correct? I have only read about that before and always thought it would be neat but I have no idea what its supposed to look like.
87Warrior
5 leaf spring pack (3+2) indicates Big Ton/Metric Ton suspension. The D44 also helps confirm this.
Dave_S
Thanks again! Yeah, I was excited to see the D44 under there the day I went to look at it. That's gonna save some money in my plans for the truck. :D
