1986 2.5 Liter Propane Swap Help

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am currently swapping my 1986 comanche 2.5 liter over to propane and I am trying to figure out what to do with the ignition system.  I would like the simplest setup possible and I am having troubles trying to figure what i even need to run it.

A little more info.....I am building the truck into a crawler and all the sensors and ecm are long gone.

Thanks,

Jon

I'm not sure if they are different or not as I've never seen one, but the 84-85 model xj 2.5 is carbed factory and may have a different style distributor that may be better suited for aftermarket stand alone ignition system. This would need to be confirmed though.

Why do anything with it? Assuming it's working OK now. Switching to propane only involves the fuel system. Not the ignition. BC (Before computers) when we switched over to propane we would advance the timing a couple degrees to take advantage of the higher octane rating of propane but that was all.

Unfortunately the stock wiring harness got tore up and then tore out before I got my hands on it.  I am going to look into the carbed distributors and see if I can make that work.  I am wanting as little wiring as possible replacing the missing stock stuff is not really on my list lol.

Thanks for the help guys, I will let you know what I come up with if anything lol.
