How To Shim A Starter

Recommended Posts

When you took it out, was there anything connected to the hold starter? I had this same thing happen to me and I had to sim mine and it fixed it.. Try auto parts stores, they might have some..

Generally, I put the shims back in that were there when I took it apart.

Lacking that, I would add shims until the noise goes away.

The older shop manuals had you disconnect the solenoid and manually engage it, then shim until you could get a wire of a given thickness in between the meshed gears.

replaced my starter .. sounds like a cat bieng strangled ...i heard i have to shim it. how do i do this?
