Tempus_Fugit Posted May 25, 2013 Share Posted May 25, 2013 Generally, I put the shims back in that were there when I took it apart. Lacking that, I would add shims until the noise goes away. The older shop manuals had you disconnect the solenoid and manually engage it, then shim until you could get a wire of a given thickness in between the meshed gears. replaced my starter .. sounds like a cat bieng strangled ...i heard i have to shim it. how do i do this?
