GrumpysMJ
Again, being new to Jeeps/MJ , still learning what fits/what dosen't. In trying to adapt Cherokee or aftermarket seats to the MJ with bench seats, from what I've read, problem seems to be getting the inside slider for both sides. This is assuming I can't find a set of MJ bucket sliders. Wondering if aftermarket sliders like Rugged Ridge seat sliders they offer for a CJ/YJ could be used on the MJ seat risers. Couldn't you just remove the outside slider mechanism on the bench and bolt on the Rugged sliders? This would open up an alternative to scrounging for original sliders. Also would allow one to use several different seats. If I'm off base or this has been gone over before, forgive a Newbie. ParadiseMJ
You need the floor bracket from an MJ...yours or another...but from an MJ because of the topography of the floor. Since the MJ floor and the XJ floor are shaped differently you'd need to remove the brackets from the MJ seats, bucket OR bench. There is only one bracket per side, driver and passenger side. Then you can put any pre 95 XJ or MJ seat on the brackets. Grind or drill the rivets off holding the bracket to the seat slider. Pre 95 XJ seats (sliders) will fit nicely on the MJ bracket. Given a little modification (like some flat stock welded or bolted on the brackets to accomodate your new sliders) you can swap just about any seat as long as it's dimensionally equivalent, provide you remove the floor bracket from them. Don't use the curved rocker (rocket) sliders unless you're only about 5'3". I'd send you some pics...but I'm at work.
GrumpysMJ
Paradise, we're talking the same idea, just different ways of getting there. Buckets from an MJ in good cond. are almost impossible to find, and buckets from the 2 door Cherokee are the same, and when you do they almost always need re foam and re cover (from what I've seen on e-bay and parted out vehicles). Buying a set of seats just to get the inner slider to mount to my bench seat bracket would be more expensive than buying the Rugged seat sliders (about 70.00 a set). With those you could mount just about any bucket, either after market or from a late model small pick-up, Ranger, S-10, Toyo, ect. If the Rugged sliders would bolt to my MJ risers, than those sliders, plus the cost of some newer buckets would probably be cheaper than finding, buying, shipping, and re-foam/re-covering some 20 year old MJ or XJ seats. I'm just looking for alternative's to having to hunt down old seats, GrumpysMJ
