If I knew that it was just a timing belt + rocker job it would be a good deal. But lets look at it worst case scenario, it needs a new engine.

Are you willing to spend $3500 for a Jeep and then $3500-4500 for an engine for it?

You can have the steering column unlocked and the key not be on iirc.

Realistically, that's still not a bad deal. a 140k KJ diesel with NEW motor? mint interior nice exterior...It would still be worth 10k-14k, so I wouldn't lose my @$$ on it if I sold it.

But, if I invested that kind of money into it...I'd HAVE to sell it. I could afford $4500 investment for DD as my xj is worth $3k, and I'll make $1800 just profit plus my $1000 back off of the blue one...and that's just my half of the investment. My brother still doubles his money, too.

It's iffy...I'll go look later this week if it's still there.

So, more digging.

Jeep still runs, just runs funny. they told him it was a fuel issue, replaced fuel filter and housing with updated one??? didn't fix it. compression check shows low compression cylinder 2, but a scope shows that the cylinder looks OK and piston head looks OK.

Never done a timing belt on it. 140k miles. sounds like bad rollers on the rockers causing compression issues, or bad lifters, bad rockers, or timing belt just loose enough to cause compression issues, but tight enough to keep from breaking the afor-mentioned.

he'll take considerably less than asking price. Do I jump on this?

Eh, if you have to put a motor in it (and thats a used motor not new) plus a belt job, and all the other little things, you would be trying to break even on it or making $1000.

See the vids I sent ya, it sounds like it might be a rocker issue, in which case it would be an easy fix.
