Goose
Ok, for those of you that have antennas mounted behind the cab, either in the bed or rear bumper, etc, how or where did you run your coax cable? And how long of one should I get? My antenna is mounted on the bed, drivers side. Also, where did you mount your cb's? Pics would be cool.
mjeff87
mine is mounted where the ashtray was. I ran the antenna wire thru the firewall via the speedometer cable grommet, down the firewall and back along the framerail to the rear bumper. Firestick is mounted on the bumper. Harley
The important thing with any CB setup is tuning. that will determine your antenna location. Quality of antenna and coax does make a difference too. You also want to run your coax away from anything electrical. If your antenna is not properly tuned it will effect your range on both transmit and receive. It can also put strain and damage on your radio. I personally run dual 4ft antennas mounted to the toolbox behind the cab. Radio is mounted on the knee panel on the passenger side and the co phase harness runs under the console and through the back of the cab.

87Warrior
I installed my antenna in the bed on the passenger side. I ran the coax through a hole in a bed plug, across the back of the cab and into the cab near the fuel pump harness as there was a hole already there. Once inside the cab I ran the wire to the passenger side then to the shifter to prevent any loops in the cable. Loops = bad. My radio is a small Uniden mounted above my right leg on the bottom of the dash. I get amazing reception in this truck!
Goose
I'm gonna have to mount mine on the top of the dash or passenger side. No room with my legs in the way.

87Warrior
.9/1.4 on channels 1/40. More variation than I would like, but works well. It was just luck. The antenna was a take off of my fathers TJ and is a foot taller than I would have bought. Didn't take much tuning and the SWR meter was giving me good readings.
