JeepcoMJ
Hey, I have a 86 MJ that i want the newer cherokee interior in. does anyone know if the interior wiring from the newer style cherokee (98-01) will plug into the engine wiring of my 86? I don't have the stock engine in the 86 anymore So I'm basically just using the original harness to run power to the interior and accessories, as well as operate lights and wipers. the engine has it's own seperate harness...the only things that tie into each other are the oil pressure sending unit, temp. sending unit, and tach signal sender. I just wanna know if the 86 engine harness and the newer cherokee interior harness will mate up at the firewall? thanks.
Eagle
Yes, I know. It won't. They are TOTALLY different. Right down the the polarity of the gauges being reversed.

Sooo you're saying I'm gonna have to get a whole cherokee harness then...
Eagle
Are you swapping to the new style dashboard? If not, you don't want a '97-'01 interior harness, you want a '91-'95 harness. But the gauge polarity was reversed in the 1991 model year, so you'll have to replace the instrument cluster, and the '91 and newer use an electronic speedo (although I suppose you could probably fit your mechanical speedo into the newer cluster, but I haven't tried that to verify it). The engine harness really doesn't even matter at all. I only need it to supply power from the battery to the interior cluster, and a few wires to the sending units in the engine compartment. the camaro 3.8 engine is running COMPLETELY seperate from the MJ harness, with the only exceptions being the oil pressure sending unit, temp. sending unit, and the tachometer sending unit and i have the stuff to convert my mj to electric speedo because i'm putting the camaro cruise in it and it needs an electric speedo. also the engine has an idle flair every once in a while that's caused by lack of electronic speedometer.
