Manifold gasket replacement; '87 2.5l

Recommended Posts

I've had my first MJ for a couple of months now. It ran okay but it run really rich. In fact it looked like it was a diesel with all the black smoke pouring out. Since I had it, Ive replaced the O2 sensor and spark plugs, which seems to have really improved things. I tested the MAT and MAP sensor and seems to be in spec. After de-greasing, there still seems to be a small oil leak somewhere as is evident from some small drips on floor. Upon inspection, there was a manifold bolt missing from the exhaust manifold. I decided to change out the gasket on the manifold as well as replace the value cover RTV with a real gasket. Attached are some of the intake pics and old gasket. It seems really oily and full of soot. Look normal? The pic of the gasket shows the leak were it was missing a bolt.

P.S. my grill was upside down but at least that is fixed.

Funny; The signature has a bug. I had "Comanche" but it put "Cherokee". I switched the sig to say "MJ", but now it reads "XJ". Does the server do this as a joke?

EDIT: funny again. I wrote "C.O.M.A.N.C.H.E" (periods added to fool computer) in the above sentance and it put "Cherokee".

EDIT 2: HaHa must be a.p.r.i.l. f.o.o.l.s. It changes the text from "M.J." to "XJ"
