Jschristensen
I have a 87 shorbed and I might be getting a 90 longbed can I swap the longbed out for a shortbed? Or is the frame different sizes? Or was it just the bed is different lengths and the frame is the same length?
tbrand
How comfortable are you with fabrication? If the answer isn't "very" then it's pretty much not possible. Why would you want to swap beds? Does one of the trucks have a lot of body damage?
Jschristensen
I offroad often and a shortbed works better for offroading
tbrand
It would probably be easier to bob the longbed than to switch the shortbed over.
ParadiseMJ
Keep the shortbed for wheeling Keep the long bed for the camper and sleeping in. Changing bed/frame lengths isn't as easy as just breaking out the recip saw. Personally (my personal opinion) it would likely end up looking like a hack job. If it's just a trail rig, then maybe, otherwise not so much.
Pete M
yup, frames are quite different and made of sheetmetal so cutting and pasting is more involved. besides, there's only a 6" difference in wheelbase between the lb and sb, so you'd be doing a whole lot of fabrication for very little gain. I would bob the longbed, fab a high clearance rear bumper, then add rocker guards and a heavy duty skidplate and go have fun.
