Blue88Comanche
What is the red line on my speedometer (it's at the 55 mph mark) for? Some someone said it might be the speed that I can't activate 4 wheel high.
gaucho919
55 used to be a very common speed limit back in the day
jimoshel
In the '70'S during one of the 'oil crisis' the all knowing idiots, er, brains in DC passed a law making 55 the national speed limit. Vehicles manufactured in the late '70s and early '80 s had a red mark at the 55mph mark.
jmderyke
There was an oil crisis back in the day around 1973 or 74 and as to response to the big time oil companies and countries I believe it was President Nixon that made it a nation wide speed limit at 55 mph to conserve oil and say f u to the gas companies and countries. It stayed in effect until 87 or 88 don't quote me, mostly because of safety issues with automobiles. I had one but covered it with a new set of gauge covers.
