No rear parking lights and only one turn signal?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I'm new to the forum. I just got a 1989 jeep comanche I was taking her through a mud hole and in the process I think i messed something up.

All of my lights in the front work. I have only one rear turn signal working (on the drivers side) back up lights are working, but I have no rear parking lights.

I have checked all the fuses they look good bulbs are good. So I'm assuming its a wiring problem.

Has anyone had this problem that could help me out? I can post pictures of my wiring if needed.

Thanks

It's a toss up between bad ground or trailer wiring.

Remove the left rear tail light. There's a self tapping screw grounding a wire, can't remember if it's one or two wires. Make sure it's clean. Look underneath for signs there was a trailer wiring hooked up. If so, remove all traces of the old wiring and inspect what's left for open or grounds. I like a product called liquid electrical tape, for covering worn insulation. Take a test light and check at the sockets for voltage. Also look for corrosion around the sockets. If they're really bad, replace them.

So I checked the ground and it was causing all of my lights to go out. I now have taillights and the rest but I still only have a drivers side turn signal in the rear. Could this be one of the bigger metal fuses under the dash or would it still be some wiring I missed from the trailer lights?

Thanks again it is at least drivable now at night.

How about stop light? On both sides? If just the driver side signal light is the only one working it could be one of two causes. A faulty wiring or socket or the signal switch. Don't overlook the most obvious , bad bulb.

I'll check the stop light. I didnt think about that actually. I put new bulbs in both sides. All of the lights light up just when i hit the turn signal it doesnt flash The front does just not the rear.
