Comanche doors closing hard??

My '87 Comanche has a problem where the driver side door doesn't want to catch and latch shut. The plastic on the visible latch mechanism is chewed up to say the least. I have had to weld the latch on the body ( inside that this is supposed to catch on ) back to the body. Anyone else had this problem?? If so how did you resolve it?? Thanks Shane

have you checked you hinges? They may be pulling from the A-Pillar and the door isn't lining up properly. If not then get a "door adjuster" and adjust the door. It sounds like the striker plate isn't lining up with the door. I used silly putty to look at my 90 sundance doors. Just put it in the seam where the latch was and closed it lightly so I could see how far the door was sagged.
