oldrusty
I bought a 96 xj last night with a 4.0? auto and am looking for some help. It starts up great cold and seems to run pretty good, but when you shut it down with the engine warmed up its hard to restart. It turns over fine but seems to be flooded. If I hold the throttle about 3/4 the way to the floor it starts and sputters a minute till it clears out. Once you get it started it runs fine. You can driveit all day as long as you don't shut it off. I have a service manual for my 89 but its not much good on the ho motor. Any ideas? :help:
mjeff87
just a guess, but I'd suspect a dirty/malfunctioning IAC motor....maybe try pulling and cleaning it. Jeff
kyleag89
:agree: Clean your entire throttle body. I just cleaned mine a couple days ago in my XJ and it made a HUGE difference in idle, acceleration, and MPG.
