acfortier
Order a new gas tank and straps from Rock Auto. Now, do I need to get anything else? The tank comes with the lock ring and o-ring for the fuel sending unit, and as for the filler neck that is just a simple unclamp from the old and clamp on to the new right? jimoshel
Take a look at the old. If it's cracked, dry, brittle then replace it. If there's no cracks and it's flexible then it's OK to reuse.
acfortier
What are the two holes on the top of the tank? Are they just breathers? Do I have to get replacements for those too? Also, the straps I ordered didn't come with bolts. Just make a run to the hardware store to find one that matches?
flint54
The two holes on top of the tank are vent lines, but they have a rollover valve installed that prevents loss of fuel when you're upside down. The grommets that hold those valves deteriorate with age. If you're really careful, and have lived an honorable life, you just might be able to salvage your old ones but don't count on it. They are still available from the dealer, they cost about $10 each, and will likely have to be ordered. If you're not certain the old ones are good, I suggest just replacing them. It sure beats pulling the tank again!
flint54
The strap bolts are unique. They're a J-bolt that hooks into the frame. If you old ones had to be cut you'll need new ones, and they're NLA at dealer. I was very lucky and found a good pair at the JY. Hope yours are still good. acfortier
Has anyone else had any luck finding the strap bolts for the gas tank?
