auto tranny in 87 won't shift above 2nd.......

auto trannywon't shift above 2nd after the vehicle has been parked for a couple months without running. i parked it for a while because i didn't need it. when i started it up and ran it to the gas station to put some fresh gas in it, it wouldn't shift above 3rd. it has been leaking fluid (i'm not sure where yet) so i checked it and put a quart in. it still didn't shift after running for quite a while. it shifted perfect before i parked it and has never had any issue. it runs fine and shifts through reverse, neutral, and through 1st and second and back fine.

 

it is an 87 4wd with the auto tranny with overdrive and the tranny with the "power button" (i don't remeber what tranny that is) and has just turned 100k miles.

 

so any ideas? :dunno:

First thing would be to check your TPS.

 

You can also unplug your TCU and see if it shifts manually just fine.
