linken Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 got an 89 mj that is 2wd putting a early aw4 21 spline and 231 in. need a rear driveshaft. does anyone know if the stock 2wd shaftwill work? I'm new to the mj had a few xj's
mvusse Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 The stock 2wd drive shaft will be too long as the transfer case bring the output back about a foot. One solution is to have a shop shorten and rebalance your 2wd drive shaft.
Geonovast Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Having your 2wd shaft cut down will most likely cost less than tracking down the shaft you actually need. Not only are our trucks old and rare... but a good portion of them rolled out of the factory 2wd. I paid $108 for a cut, balance, and two new spicer U-joints.
case5412 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Yep, two days ago my truck was 2WD and now I realize that the drive shaft is a couple inches to long. Guess I'll be getting it cut down to size.
