4cyl to 8cyl swap Qs with emissions inspections

a question or two.

 

my son has a 97 wrangler 4 cylinder. it has 135000 miles. the head is bad. he is thinking about making it trail only. has another car. i told him a chevy v8 would be cool. what do you guys think?

 

he wants a manual trans. what kind to do?

 

should he use a exploder 8.8 or go 9 in?

 

he lives in tenn where the emissions count. how hard is it to match up with his jeep?

Don't quote me on this, but I've heard from many sources that the new motor has to be of newer year than the vehicle in order to pass safety inspections.
