8.8 Set-Up Spec Question

My USA Gear Set-Up book calls for two different BL specs for an 8.8.

One spec says: (Old 5 cut) 11-16 Thou BL

The other says: (New 2 cut) 3-6 Thou BL

My question is, what are they meaning 2 cut or 5 cut and how to tell the difference.

My assumption is that they are talking about the profile of the gear "cut"?

BTW the axle is out of an 96 Exploder.

you want 11-16 thou. i've never seen the "new cut" so i don't know what it looks like, but even the 03 exploder with the aluminum independent rear was the "old cut"

 

i would however like to know an answer to this question, i couldn't find a straight answer either.

I am pretty sure the "new cut" is for the HP front IFS setup used in 97+ F150s etc..
