bighause
I am beginning my axle hunt for 4.10 gears in a front HP D30 and a rear Ford 8.8. The rear axle I have figured out but I'm not sure on the front. Should I be looking for a 4cyl auto XJ or MJ? The JY I was at yesterday had a 4cyl 5spd XJ and it had 3.73 gears. Am I correct in thinking only the MJ and XJ had the HP D30?
Geonovast
Any 4 cylinder 5 speed will most likely have 4.10 Later 4 cylinder autos will most likely have 4.10, earliers might have 4.56. Not that you'll find a lot of 4cyl autos. 4 cylinder with a 4 speed will most likely have 3.55, so keep an eye on that.

This is a guidline for MJ's. which as we all know are few and far between in junk yards, XJ's will be slightly different, but your best bet would be in a 4 cylinder XJ, youll just have to confirm the gears when looking. Geonovast
Hence the most likely. Always check ratio before buying an axle. And for your other question, XJs had an HP D30 from 84-99, 00-01 were LP. All MJs came with a HP D30. YJs have a HP D30, but they're not much use to you unless you love fab work.
