AW4 to D300 adapter..

Recommended Posts

Q about adapter rings

I am mating an AW4 from a 93 ZJ to a Dana300, They fit as far as splines are conserned.

My question is now think of an adapter; what did you use???

I have calculated and measured, that I need atlest 1/2" think

for the two to fit without binding and to have the seal properly seated for my application.

I did read on Novak's site that 7/8" is need to clear the front output yoke,

but when I did all my measurements I did not have the yokes installed

Reason for my Qestion is a fellow Jeeper has made some rings at 3/8" thick.

I will try it... but think I may have to cut down the D300 input bearing retaner for it to work.

Whats your story

started make the ring last night.

just have to turn the outside down and drill the holes

:D

pics below \/ from left to right

1. paralleled the first side, finished pic

2. started the second side, you can see how far off the big bandsaws cut

3. center cut out with a lip for the tranny

I've got to turn down the outside about 2.5" and finish the tcase side

I am going to flip the D300 and run drivers dump

For axles I'm running stock there cheap and plentyfull and I already have spear shafts.

I have 33" TSL for meats and right now I am just using parts I have sitting in the garage.

Here is what I have to date..

Pulled the AW4 end cone off this past weekend to make shore the adapter fits nice

and to mark the bolt pattern so I can drill and tap it.

I don't know what degree I am going to go with, so I will more then likely do a couple rotations.

Nice... I take it your output is a 23 spline then. Mine is a 21 spline which means I would need a special adapter to run the D300. I am kinda in limbo on this swap now, as trail riding season has started, and you know how that works ;) jamminz.gif

Have you thought about doing dual cable shifters. This is what I thought about using, seemed a lil easier to work with. There was a write-up in Crawl Magazine about a YJ with dual cases, but the point I am making is he used cable shifters for everything.
