87manche Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I believe that the rotation on those pumps is different. Look at the impellers. The 4.0 uses a reverse rotation pump because of the serpentine belt.
rejeep Posted September 7, 2006 Author Posted September 7, 2006 yeah mines a V belt.. I think ill splurge the $30 and buy a new one.. is just the gasket ok, or do i need RTV?
Oizarod115 Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 jeepin.com did a write up of an install on one. i used blue rtv along with the gasket like they did. you might need a pipe wrench to get the long skinny tube out of the old one. (mines an 89 though)
feerocknok Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Just put mine on last week. We cleaned the block off (new block, but it had paint on it), put high temp gasket sealant on one side of the gasket, then on the block, then put the gasket on the block, the put gasket sealer on the second side of the gasket (the side facing the world), then gasket sealer on the water pump, then mounted the water pump.
