thejum57
Could a bad starter make the "battery" light glow sometimes? It's usually off, but sometimes it will glow, then go off. When the battery needed to be replaced it came on as soon as I started the truck and stayed bright till I got home.
Automan2164
Bad starter will not make the battery light come on. It comes on when it sees too much, or most likely in your case, too little voltage. Check the connections from the alternator to the battery, and make sure that alternator is cranking out some volts. mvusse
Are you sure about the voltage? I though it read the direction of the current, and came on whenever the battery was being discharged. As in more power is being used than the alternator is delivering.
thejum57
Finally broke down and brought it to a shop for a diagnostic. They tested the batt. & alt. Said they were both good. Said it's probly all the oil leaking on the connections & the starter. Wanted to rebuild the entire truck, I said "how much do I owe you" Replaced the starter today....what a pain that was. Turned the key and it fired up like a new truck. Valve cover gasket is next, then some engine de-greasing.
