Cheech
Well, I've had the MJ for about a year and a half now and when I put it into reverse, it drops in really hard. It has done this since I've owned it. It drops into Drive somewhat firmly but nothing like the way it slams into reverse. Its an 86 2.5L with the 3 speed auto. Geonovast
Sounds like an AX-5 swap is in order. Have you tried putting any additives into it? The lucas trans fix stuff is supposed to work really well.
Automan2164
Checked your U-joints lately? Also rear gears? Rob L.
1974CJ5
Is the 86 carbureted? (can't remember) if it is, your curb idle could be a little strong.

Is there anyway to bring the idle speed down to see if that makes any difference. Its TBI.
