64 Cheyenne
Am I correct in thinking that my harmonic balancer is bad if it is hitting the timing cover on this It's an 89 with a 4.0 Tried to take picts You can barely see where the balancer is hitting the cover in this pic. Or is it possible that it has other problems. Is there a possibility of,I think I read about in another post, thrust bearing ? problems. The rubbing hasn't gone all the way through the timing cover (I know it's toast), and there isn't any oil coming from the rear main seal.

BLHTAZ
:agree: It's a fairly common issue.
88 Beast
:agree: It's a fairly common issue. x2. Same thing happened to me. Sounded just like an exhaust leak. Luckily I spotted it right before tearing into the manifold  Easy to replace and cheap too. Just make sure you use balancer puller and installer. DON'T use a hammer.
