Windowsrookie
What is the temperature of the coolant where the Switch mounts in the open system thermostat housing? My factory wiring to the electric fan has been tampered with by previous owners, and I just want to bypass it completely. Most of the non-adjustable fan wiring kits turn on at 195 and off at 185. I have the open system thermostat housing, and want to mount a switch in that. Is the coolant in the thermostat housing cooler, or do I need to buy an adjustable wiring kit so I can bump up the temp the fan turns on at? brdhntr
the temp at the thermastat housing is at it's warmest, when it's released from the engine to be cooled. the only problem i see is that the thermastat housing does not always have coolant in it above the thermastat. so anything you would do would have to be below that. that's not a possibility on most engines. i think you need to find a different location. as far as temp, i think you'd be okay anywhere from 175 to 200. BLHTAZ
These engines are intended to run at 200 - 210 degrees. If you run it too much cooler than that you will have problems. The t-stat housing is where i put my sensor for the adjustable fan controller that I used and it works great...you just have to get the t-stat housing for the '91 - newer engine so it has the hole in it for the sensor.
