  1. Has anyone ever cut the floorpan (or part of it) out of donor Cherokee and used it to replace their rotting MJ? I know many members have purchased replacement floor pans that claim to be Comanche specific and have found out or guessed that they're Cherokee pans. Is a '96 Cherokee floor pan similar/same as an '88 MJ? P.S: if you found this post in a search for floor pan installs, here's a few great links - #1 and #2
  2. WOW..... awesome flex in the video. I can hardly wait to see the pics when they're back up :clapping: I'm gonna have to pick your brain sometime to help me with my build
  3. Looking good. How solid were those floor pans? They looked pretty rusty before you treated them. Did you consider cutting them out, or plan on doing later? I have to admit they look much better now. Looking forward to seeing more
  4. What political position :dunno: This sounds interesting.
  5. Great find. I like these. My MJ has empty holes where the lights are supposed to go, and these are gonna work out great :clapping:
  6. Congrats. Your in almost the exact same boat as I am. Looking forward to your build
  7. Day 9 Not a whole lot to report. Surgery went well. I'll have a cast on for awhile. I was browsing the local classifieds yesterday and I scored a 2 Ton Engine Hoist with quick remove legs for $100.00 and it's brand new. I'm hoping to start the engine removal process tomorrow..... we'll see how things go. Post Purchases Tools - $100.00 Engine Hoist Build Total Parts = $1050.00 Tools = $127.29 Misc. = $49.37
  8. Wow.... that's crappy, I don't blame ya for venting. You lasted way longer than I would have. So I just saw your build thread for the first time today and I read all 20 pages of it...... AMAZING..... congrats on a job well done. I have to admit that your build makes me cringe since I'm just starting mine and it's at least as involved as yours.... possibly even more. Way back in the thread you had someone ask you about the heating vent in front of the centre console..... how did you solve that dilemma in the end? Also where did you get your Comanche decals on your doors (they look awesome)? Anyways.... awesome build. Definitely bookmarking it and subscribing to see what you have in store next
  9. Day 5 Not a whole lot to update. I didn't have the patience to carefully remove the glue off the door control connector, so I figured I'd leave it for another day. I finished removing the dash and piled up the parts.... and then I started researching the engine/tranny/xfercase swap....... soooo much to learn. Here's a few pics: Surgery tomorrow and one handed updates to follow :waving:
  10. I've removed, rebuilt and installed an 87' Inline 6 before, but this swap is way more complicated and my brain is suffering from information overload from all the topics I've been researching. My Comanche is currently a 88' 2.5L Std., base model no bells/whistles. My Donor is a 96' Cherokee 4.0L H.O, Auto, power everything, cruise, air Plans: - Remove engine, trans, transfer case and axles from the Comanche - Pulling the engine, trans, transfer case from the Cherokee - Stroking the 4.0L to 4.6L and installing it, the trans, transfer case into the Comanche - I plan on using a Rear 14 Bolt and a Front Dana 60 - I'd prefer not to have power windows, doors, windows or cruise.... but want the air conditioning to function. With the above plans in mind, I have the following questions: 1. Do I need to remove the entire wiring harness from the Comanche and install the entire wiring harness from the Cherokee. 2. If the answer to #1 is no, do I just need the sensors and computer from the Cherokee? Any other parts? 3. Do I need to swap the steering columns if I don't plan on using cruise control? 4. Is there anything else I need to consider? Any advice/links/feedback is greatly appreciated
  11. Day 4 Today was pretty productive. I visited the "Heep" and pulled a few goodies from it's rust riddled bones: - Headlights and Side lamps - Alternator - Distributor - Coolant Over-Flow Jug, Windshield Washer Jug, - Windshield Trim, Badging, - Misc Stuff: Relays, Hose Clamps, Hood Striker Latches, Oil Dip Stick, 2 Jeep Centre Wheel Caps, Horn Later on the Donor Vehicle arrived (Pic & slideshow in above post) via tow truck and I didn't waste any time getting to work. I removed the centre console, 3/4's of the front dash, the inside panel of the drivers side door and most of inside panel of the passenger side door. I would've finished the passenger side door, but some fool used some kind of glue to seal the door control connector together. I'm probably gonna have to carefully Exacto knife it to get it apart. As many of you know Haynes manuals are great to a point.... but leave out little important tid bits. I found an amazing write-up by a member of Cherokeeforum.com which is located HERE. Tons of useful pics and info. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take any pics since it was dark when I started the tear down. I'll snap some pics tomorrow. Post Purchases Misc. - $50.00 For Towing - +$.63 Found Under Centre Console  Build Total Parts = $1050.00 Tools = $27.29 Misc. = $49.37
  12. I've used the search function and google, and have probably read hundreds of threads/posts on floor pans but I haven't found anything on Full Pans..... is that b/c there isn't one available? These 2 companies are mentioned the most: - Sherman - Classic to Current Fabrication Are their other manufactures that I should consider?
  13. :peek: Fixed....thx
  14. The new project link is in my signature. The previous owner did a good job on the camo paint, but I think it's fugly. As for the flex pics on the Yellow Comanche, the owner forgot to unhook the swaybar disco's for the pics.
  15. Figured I'd start a thread of useful links and images. Post a link or image and I'll add it to the list  Should Be Manditory Forum Viewing - Posting and You :smart: Links: - 84 to 86 Parts Catalog - 1988 to 1990 Parts Catalog - 1991 to 1993 Parts Catalog - 1994 to 1996 Parts Catalog - 1997 to 1999 Parts Catalog - 2000 Parts Catalog - BillaVista's Fabulous PDF Index Page - TONS of useful information.... if you click on 1 link only make it this one. - Gear Ratio & Tire Size Chart - Tire Size Change Calculator - Metric Tire Size to Diameter (Inches) Calculator - Ramp Travel Index (RTI) Calculator - Ring & Pinion Calculator - Speedometer Check Calculator - Autobody Store: lots of body work tips, tricks, tools and other useful info. - Tuning a CB radio - Bondo-Glass Fiberglass Repair - Welding in Patch Panels: a useful thread I found on Garagejournal.com - Sandblasting Guide - Mig Welding Guide - Tig Welding Guide - Arc Welding Guide - Spray Painting Guide Images: Front End Parts: Camber, Caster & Toe-in Visual Definitions: Bolt Lingo: Frame Dimensions:
  16. It's not my browser settings, it's the forum. The links change colour when you scroll over top of them, but the only way you can find a link in a sentence is to scroll over ever word and look for the colour change in the text. For example I put a link in the above text and you probably wouldn't even of found it unless I had just told you about it. It would be nice for all URL links to show up in a different colour without scrolling over them.
  17. I remembering reading that you can log into the Jeep Owners site and find out the build information on your Jeep.... which I know is located Here, but it won't let me register b/c I live in Canada, yet the Canada Jeep site doesn't even offer this service.... WTF??? Am I missing something?

  19. It has an 8" Rusty's Long Arm Kit on it, and it's currently sitting on 35's. This was supposed to be my next Jeep project but I missed out on it by about an hour..... which really sucked  The good news is I'm buying an 88 Short Bed tomorrow, and I've just picked up a 96 Cherokee in Mint shape to be used as a donor. Hopefully I'll snap some pics and start a new Project thread. Gonna call this one Camochee (Ca-moe-chee) due to it's horrible camo paint job. It's gonna be a real labour intensive build.... but it'll be fun  Here's a bad pic of the Camochee
  20. I know this is an old post...... But how about a Mean Green alternator.... should solve any power problem :wrench:
  21. I've been doing a lot of reading concerning Comanche's and I'm getting close to purchasing my 1st one. Once I purchase a Comanche, I intend to use it heavily offroad with 37"+ tires. For Wranglers the go to standard for offroading axles combinations is a Dana 60 (Ford, High Pinion, King Pin) and a 14 Bolt rear. Would this be a good combination for a Comanche??? Any info/feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  22. I've always wanted to build a stroker and now that I'm about own my 3rd 4.0 Inline 6, I figured it was about time that I start researching this topic and become more familiar with what's involved.
