89 MJ Totalled, the Resurrection!
xjtrailrider replied to xjtrailrider's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Yep he is a good boy. Turned 19 a week ago. He is trying to get into the NAVY if they will waiver his astigmatism, he scored a 89 on his ASVAB. His eyes are keeping him from his dream right now. -

He owns it now, he bought it from us after the wreck and is paying for the repairs. Thank You! Thank You! No extra mods are planned other than more lift. I'm going with shorter shackles and doing a spring over in the rear then some DB's and longer coils in the front. -

The sheet metal is off and ready for the replacement top. I just have to remove the rear glass(carefully!) and it will be ready for Ron, my sheet metal/body fender guy to do his magic! I found a rust free/mostly dent free bed in Greenville SC, going to pick it up in a few weeks Yay! I want to thank everyone on here that answered the call about a bed. I had many offers and its always impressive how the Jeep community always comes through for one another! -
Guys, first off a big "thanks to all of those that were looking out for me. Bricker went to great lengths to look at a bed for me in his home town and I appeciate it. This is what I love about Jeeps, its the community of folks that surround the hobby! I have found a rust free bed that I'm going to buy. It does have a slight dent in the rocker below the gas filler but other than that its golden. Going to pick it up in a week or so in NC. Once again THANK YOU ALL for looking out for me!

My tailgate and tail lights are good! Find out what he wants for it and I will see if I can get a trailer and make the trip! Edit: I just realized you are in Jamestown TN not VA. I use to live in Nashville so your about 5.5 hours from here and that is laying the hammer down! But if the price is right, I'll run it in a day if I have to. -

Thanks! Its been a long process to get it ready to be repaired. I'm anxious to get it rolling down the road again. I just need a dang bed! -
My son rolled our MJ last winter. I decided to fix it instead of scrap it! So the resurrection begins! Ron (my sheet metal mechanic/body and fender friend)picked up the donor top today, I picked this up and cut it off a 86 MJ in Charlottsville VA a few months ago(from a member on here) for $80 plus a hood. He removed the top sheet metal that he will need to repair the crushed top. Her it is before the de-skinning Then after removing the skin. He will use the front cross brace and the pass side "side" brace as well. Stay tuned! The next step is cutting the crushed metal off the MJ then grafting the new metal on! I still need a short bed(rust dent free) both doors and a RF fender to finish off the parts pile. Here it is after the roll, the A/B pillars are straight and there was no frame damage. The 4.0 still runs great even after running upside down for 5min while my son was passed out! Someone hook me up with a good bed in the VA/NC area! Please(begging) LOL!

Contact Steve at Custom Headliners, he can make you one;Custom Headliners ;

Yep, thats what I'm running into. There are plenty of LWB MJ's around here but few SWB and finding a rust free/dent free bed is even harder.
-
Getting desperate! We are making repairs to the truck cab now and will be ready for a bed soon. HELP!
-
Folks, still needing a good short bed! Let me know what you have. I will buy a rolling chassis for the bed if i have to(if the price is right and it has a title!)
-
Still looking guys! I will be starting my re-build of this MJ soon. I can't watch another one go to scrap!
-
I'm willing to drive further but I need a good solid bed to replace the dented one on my rolled 89 MJ that I will eventually be repairing. E-mail me at jrhammes@yahoo.com as I'm not on here daily. TIA Jon

Mods, please delete this thread. We have 6 rigs going tomorrow but no MJ's unfortunately. A JK Rubi and 5 XJ's are committed for the trail ride. Thanks!

You lived 10min above the Mason-Dixon yet it takes you 10 hours to get to VA? I do not understand your point. Trust me, where I live it is the South, and I love VA so I consider your comment an insult. There is nothing "limbo" about this state Unless you want to wheel with us Saturday quit trolling my thread(I'm being a polite southerner but the redneck in me is close to coming out)

Yes, SW virginia is still technically part of south-east US. Roanoke area. Thanks Brian, Yes the last time I checked VA is below the Mason-Dixon line so we are in the south! MD and north would be North East. Some NOVA folks claim to be NE since the trail systems they frequent are technically in the NE but VA as a whole is a southern state and damn proud of it! Everything is still a go! The weather looks great, sunny in the 60's. The trail is open confirmed by Mrs Park Ranger Lady herself (called on Monday, gates opened last Friday) Our club (SWVa4W) has a clean up for Potts next weekend so I will be picking up as I go through since I won't be there for that function. Looking forward to a great day on a awesome trail!

I'm putting together a trail ride on Potts Mountain for April 7th. We will meet at the Liberty/Burger King(114 Sheraton Dr, Salem, VA 24153) at 9am and caravan to the trail head at 9:30 sharp(I won't wait!) which is 35-45min away in Craig County VA. The Liberty/BK is just off of I-81 in Salem and its a good place to pick up final supplies and gas before heading to the trail head. A couple of notes; Potts Mountain is considered a state road and all rules apply including no alcohol, rig must be tagged and insured and the driver must have a valid drivers license. You will need recovery points front and rear You need to carry a fire extinguisher, tools and a first aid kit. You should carry any "rig specific" parts that are known to leave you stranded. You need a spare that matches your tire size you are running. Your rig needs to be in top running condition as it will be challenged in some spots. You need at least 31's to even have a chance at clearing any of the rocks up there. We will be on the trial at 10:30 and we will break for lunch at the field around 1pm I may cancel the ride the night before due to weather/trail conditions, I practice "tread lightly" Post up if you are interested or e-mail me at jrhammes@yahoo.com. This thread will be posted on several forums so we should have plenty of rigs and a good time!

I need a good solid rust free cab top to graph in on my rolled 89, I prefer it to be cut at the bottom of the pillars so I will have plenty to work with. I also need a hood, both fenders and both doors from a MJ/XJ. I will buy a complete non running truck if the price is right and its rust/dent free on the parts I need. Please e-mail me at jrhammes@yahoo.com

The MJ is going to the paint shop tomorrow!!
xjtrailrider replied to xjtrailrider's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
2 months ago it looked like this and it didn't run! I paid $250 for it. I'm still amazed at how rust free it is and how well it turned out and it runs great!! -
