Wow, good info. I'll only use it for the smaller stuff. Thanks!!

It's rainy season in Florida and it's been raining every day. Each day, almost an inch of water appears on the passenger-side floor. Luckily I've already herculined the whole interior, but it's still a PITA to clean up every day. I've already replaced the entire door seal (including the single strip up top) -- what are some other areas I should look for? The headliner has not been showing signs of water. Thanks!

Awesome tips, thanks!! :)

I've been restoring a 91 MJ and have primed the majority of the truck (pics to follow soon in my build thread). Anyways, there are a few spots that have a small amount of rust. There are also some spots that are dinged. All sports are less than the size of a dollar bill. I'd planned on grinding some of the rust out, sanding, and bondoing it, etc. However, I've never used bondo before. Aside from the obvious task of reading the package, does anybody have any bondo tips? Thanks!! She's almost ready for the road

Awesome read; nice MJ!!

My first Comanche - 91 Comanche Pioneer
LobsterThief replied to LobsterThief's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Cool, I'll keep an eye out for one. Just found a great junkyard with 10-15 XJs and 2 YJs in it. Just curious.. do you know which years used the column mount? Here's an update on the project: - Completely stripped the interior, definitely going to rhino line for durability (or use some good knockoff brand). Looking for bucket seats now - After a short test drive she was overheating, turns out the lower radiator hose I got from Autozone was too long and had too sharp a bend in it (almost a kink). Also replaced the thermostat and radiator cap while I was at it. Problem fixed! - Started sanding her down to paint her :D - Replaced the door seals with a nice set from an 01 at the junkyard Photos to come! -

Good point. Now that I'm at my computer I did some research and it turns out the carpet is responsible for dampening a lot of sound.. I'm not sure I want to hear every pebble and rain drop hitting the bottom  -

Good point! I already picked them up, but I'll keep an eye out at the junkyard for a 91+ cluster (I read they went more digital after 90) -
4.0L 4X2 Auto with 130k My first Comanche! Bought this as a parts truck but the engine is so solid -- and the body completely rust-free -- that I decided to rebuild it instead. Found it for $500 with brand new tires, suspension, battery, belts and brakes. Poor lady I got it from dropped $1500 into it and then a week later the tranny kept overheating. To do: - Replace tranny (picked one up today) - done - Replace radiator and all cooling hoses - done - New grille and corner markers - done - New fender flares - done - New carpet - done with Herculiner instead 8) - New headliner - done (Joanne Fabrics FTW) - Bucket seat swap - done, then undone - Fix the numerous mysterious electrical gremlins - gremlins slain - New head unit and speakers - done - Add push button start with a momentary switch (the ignition switch is screwed, so she added a toggle switch to start it haha) - done - Add Renix cluster - Remove dents and repaint silver - done, went with white instead :wrench: - Roll bar w/ lights - Sand and paint rims black - done Looks to be a fun project ahead! Zach Nice bumper Don't worry, that tree isn't growing out of it Badly needs a paint job and front end parts The interior isn't much to look at. You can see the toggle switch hanging from wires by the steering wheel  Changing out the radiator

True, I'll PM you for more info :) thanks

Hey Dave, Sounds like a good deal, but I'm trying to find something that runs right off the bat -- I actually have an auto sitting in my driveway with a shot tranny (bought it as a parts truck). If I'm gonna put a tranny in, I'd probably just end up doing it to that one -- I just don't want to spend the time. Thanks anyways! Zach

Went and looked at it yesterday -- unfortunately it's in too bad a shape for what he's asking. Plus it was a hunting truck, and we all know how those get treated :ack:
-
Thanks for the tip! I'm gonna see if he'll go down on price though, that's a bit out of my price range. I don't have much to trade unfortunately :P

Cool, thanks. That looks like a response post but ill keep looking.

I can't seem to find it -- do you have a link? Thanks

Finally have enough to buy my Comanche. Looking for a 4.0 manual 4x2 or 4x4. Anything under 125k miles. I'm watching Craigslist like a hawk, every day, but thought I'd post here as well :) If anybody finds anything, please let me know. I live in Tampa (33617) but am willing to travel around 300 miles. Thanks! Zach

Most reliable/unreliable engine
LobsterThief replied to LobsterThief's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Very helpful :) I've been looking into getting the 2.5 for fuel economy, but if I can get a 4.0 and get the same/similar mileage, that'd be great. Do you know which years had the 4.0? -
I'm still doing my research in preparation for buying an MJ shortly, so I thought I'd post this thread. Note: this will be my daily driver (no offroading), and I live in Florida (so no hills). In your opinion, what is the most reliable stock engine? In your opinion, what is the least reliable stock engine? Thanks!

Any tall MJ owners?
LobsterThief replied to LobsterThief's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, I have this problem in every car.. I'm used to it finally :P I intentionally leave the upper part of my windshield smudged so that at night I can see the streaks of whatever color the light is. Thanks everyone for the useful (and otherwise entertaining) comments. I'll definitely measure and remeasure any buckets I put in there! Can't wait to pick her up. -
Any tall MJ owners?
LobsterThief replied to LobsterThief's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah lol, it has an inch more interior height than my Volvo S60 (which I fit in just barely), but I know the bench seats in the MJ are lower and I'm afraid that once I do a bucket swap it might raise the seats a bit too much. -
I'm 6'5" and have sat in a Comanche in the junkyard (fit fine), but I haven't been able to drive one around yet. Before I waste my time driving (potentially) far away to look at a Comanche, are there any other tall mofos who fit just fine? Thanks! Zach
