Motion vs Rusty's coil springs
JeepNewb replied to JeepNewb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Rusty's = 150lb Motion's are progressive. They start at 115 and progress to 160. These are also about $20 more. -
Opinions on each of these? I'm about to purchase a set of 6.5" coils and i want a set that is going to ride smooth on the road and be good for what little bit of offroading i may do.
-
Anyone know if i can find this part at a parts store or am i gonna have to hit up pull-a-part?? I was about to get some new tubing to route up near my gas tank with a filter but the insert that fits in the axle has somehow popped out.

Repainting the Interior Trim
JeepNewb replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
To be honest the yellow/black will look very "Ricer" and you probably will hate it after it's done..........but the same prep method can be used to make it turn out good. -
Newer throttle body on 89 4.0?
JeepNewb replied to JeepNewb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Dam that sux, looks like i'll have to have something custom made to fit on my renix TB. -
Has anyone put the newer throttle body on the older style 4.0?? I would like to have the round mounting so i have more options for intake systems instead of the wierd 3 bolt rubber hose assembly that's on mine now.

Repainting the Interior Trim

I have also used this same satin for the chrome trim around the door handle and armrest. Works best to use an adhesion promoter and light coat of primer before the black. -
I never thought about removing the extra bracing and using the XJ kit. I'm assuming that wouldn't be that hard. I like the Rough Country XJ kit and it's a fair price.
-
Thats why i like the RRO kit because it comes with braces specifically for the MJ. I think i will definately call instead of ordering online.
-
I've seen a couple posts about the guys at RRO not being very customer service oriented but their CAD kit looks rather appealing to me since it has the MJ specific brace. Any other companies out there make a kit specifically for the MJ?? Or has anyone installed a XJ kit without the brace and had good luck?? My MJ won't see much dirt but i want something reliable.

Mine had that same rattle, turned out to be the cat was toast. Good thing there aren't any emissions down here in Barrow County Georgia....lol

89 4.0l 2wd 5spd shifting issue
JeepNewb replied to JeepNewb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm guessing the system needs bleeding?? -
Soo i just started having this issue the other night after i parked the mj then tried to drive it yesterday. The clutch pedal went almost to the floor before feeling any resistance therefore i can't shift into any gear so open the hood and check.........and all the fluid in the clutch reservoir is gone . Bought a bottle of dot 3 yesterday and just filled it up this morning but still having the same issue. Thoughts??

need input ona a soa
JeepNewb replied to coon.hunter_21's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Depending on the perches you go with you will get somewhere in the neighborhood of 5.5" in the rear with the SOA. My 89 is 2wd and i have perches from barnes4wd.com and i'm sitting right at 5.5" in the rear. And i'm planning 6.5" coils in the front with a CAD kit to sit it level. -
Reverse lights not working
JeepNewb replied to JeepNewb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ya know i didn't think to look at the trans fuse for that problem. I will take a look this weekend. Hopefully that is what it is cause yea even rockauto.com is pretty pricey for that switch. -
Reverse lights not working
JeepNewb replied to JeepNewb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
4.0l Manual trans/2wd. And i've already checked the harness connector behind the tire with a test light.........no power at this connector. -
Anyone know where the reverse light switch is located? I think this part has went out on my 89 simply because i had reverse lights when i first bought it and now i don't. I've already checked bulbs and fuses so i'm thinking this is prolly the only thing left to look at other than wiring.

Ok so i think i might have my ccv setup completely wrong since i got rid of my airbox and went with an open air intake so i would like some advice if i definately am doing this wrong. This is how mine is setup so far. The FRONT ccv tube is connected just behind the air filter on the intake tube..........the REAR ccv tube is connected to vacuum on the intake manifold. Is this right??

I'm pretty sure there is a rubber hose that connects to the plastic fitting on the axle and runs somewhere under the truck but i'm unsure where it's supposed to go. I currently have a small breather filter on my axle vent but it looks rather gaudy and i want to run rubber hose to it again. Anyone got pics of how its routed and where it goes??
-
Soo i'm getting ready to clean the inside of my gas tank to remove any corrosion and was wondering if anyone else has done this and what you used?? I've already dropped the tank, emptied it and am prepping it to be painted black along with the undercarriage where the tank bolts up and this is the last thing on the "to do" list before paint and reassembly.
-
Taillight mod. Just need to clear them now. Also removed the rear bumper to get ready for a "better" one :brows:
-
I ditched the toolbox and the drop-in bedliner. Also added 3" spacers up front with 2" shackles in the rear. Running used 31x10.50's on stock wheels. Also painted the grill and b-pillar covers satin black. Also added clear corners and blinkers.
-
The day i brought it home. 169k and only slight issues that needed fixing. Shortly after i removed the pinstripe, body moulding, emblems and tried on a toolbox.
