  1. its obvious but here's the filler neck 22 gallon 91-96 dodge dakota tank here it is underneath the truck, it's a close fit but i don't think it will ever hit the axle (don't think its close enough) and not as close to the driveshaft as the stock tank was battery went dead on digital cam as soon as i find the charger ill get some more if you want them I did finish the install and it runs like its supposed to, drove it around the property for a few minutes to kinda test it out
  2. 97+ cherokees don't have a fuel return line like previous xj's do and the regulator is built in the pump assembly. I havent looked it up so i don't know if the ohm reading would be the same
  3. in my truck I'm using everything from a 99 cherokee including fuel pump (have been for about 3 years now) just didnt like the tank that i made that i have been using so I'm going to use a dakota tank which uses the same style of pump assembly that a 97-01 cherokee uses
  4. incase anybody was wondering a dakota 22 gallon tank will fit. the salvage yard i went to didnt have any 15's at all and they already had a 22 out so i grabbed it ($20.00) and did a mock up on it this morning, it fit. I made a 1 1/2" drop on the first rib of the bed (towards cab) and a 3" drop on the third rib from the cab and modified the filler on the plastic tank today, I did it a little different than the one showed in this thread. I used a bearing flange that was about 3" o.d. the i.d. of it fit perfectly around the o.d. of a 1 3/4 i.d. exhaust pipe, i used about 3" of the exhaust pipe and part of the filler neck and vent tube of a scrap tank i had and soldered them all together. I am about to go to work so tomorrow i will get the tank installed and take some more pics and load them on here for you to see
  5. go to youtube and search "windshield installation demonstration" and watch one getting put in a grand cherokee
  6. I worked at a mobile glass company in dallas for a couple of years (installed windshields all day long on site for 2 years :ack: ) it is a sh***y job. I replaced my comanche windshield about 4 months ago and it cost me 98.00 for a new glass, i just got done rebuilding a 99 eclipse that i bought and also put new windsheild in it last week, that cost about 110.00 (glass shop wanted 250.00 installed) my point is if you want to do it yourself go buy a NEW glass and tackle it yourself, don't waste your time trying to get an old one out. I have a couple years experiance and i still broke a cherokee glass even with the dash out...... BTW: there is something like what you were looking for, ive only seen it in round form about 1/4 to 3/8 thick. it is only used on installs where you have no old adhesive left on the windshield pinch weld. if you really want to do it yourself go to autozone or equivelant auto store buy a "windshield knife" not very expensive it's a L shaped knife with a short cable and handle for pulling, call your local salvage yard and ask if they sell NEW glass ( a lot of yards can order new glass and get it overnight) usually they can get the glue too, about 6.00 a tube is what i pay. then have at it oh ya i almost forgot... I have tackled a few where the glass has been replaced before and they used too much glue. I really really hate those  if you do it yourself let me know maybe i couple give you some tips on getting it out and getting the new glass to seal properly
  7. i did see the tank vent, thanks for the info
  8. just a couple more questions, i missed where you added your own filler neck, any details on that? and what size tank is it, 15 gallon? I love modding stuff so making my own filler neck is no biggie just a little input from somebody thats done it is better
  9. what years use that tank? is it like 87-92 shortbed or somewhere around there?
  10. awesome, ive thought of so many ways to do the fuel tank, never really liked any of them, not even crazy about what i had to do to my tank but its been working for 3 years, but i do like having a plastic tank better and don't like the idea of a tj tank being that close to my driveshaft and the filler neck not lining up. all i can say is good work man  , i never thought about a dakota tank
  11. I see your filler neck isnt hooked up yet, is it going to line up without a problem?, if so i think ill be heading to the salvage yard wednesday to pick up about 3-4 dakota tanks, put one in the mj ive been driving with the 99 conversion and have 3 more to finish up the other 97-01 xj mj conversions ive started
  12. I am also curious as to what you did with the filler neck on the tj tank since they come out of the wrong side of the tank
  13. I like the idea of using the tj tank and think i will do it, except for it looks real close to where the driveline would be, I am currently using a smaller diameter shaft ( i think 3" will have to measure) and no lift except for the 1" pucks in the front to help level it out
  14. Just got done reading all 21 pages of your onyx build, a lot of the same stuff i ran into except for the fuel tank, over 3 years and over 12000 miles (don't drive it everyday) on it since being built and still going strong, best thing I have ever done to my mj.
  15. I wouldnt recomend what i did to my gas tank to anyone, wasnt sure if a tj tank would work and I didnt have one handy so I did a lot of cutting and welding and made my steel comanche tank to look like the top of a cherokee/tj tank so the newer fuel pump would drop in. If there is anybody here that used a tj tank and could tell me what they had to do or if it was an easy swap then id like to know. I own 6 of these trucks and 1 is halfway converted with the newer stuff already and 2 more will follow after that one is done, not having to cut up and mod another comanche tank would make me happy
  16. cool, I'm curious to see their pics or what they ran into as far as problems, my hardest part was moding my gas tank to accept the newer style cherokee fuel pump
  17. here is a teaser, this is before the new 235's and alumi's
  18. First of all I'm new to this board but not new to jeeps or definatly comanches, bought my first comanche about 6 years ago. (still own it, and now i own 6.. yes i said 6 ) anyways i have been searching the web over and over and hoping to find somebody else that had done the conversion that i had done to my mj about 3 years ago, well i havent..... kinda dissapoints me. I want you guys to prove my buddies wrong and show me somebody thats done exactly what i did. is it killing you yet to find out? :fs2: to me its not that special its just what i do, i get something and i gotta make it better. I get a lot of people that don't believe it till they see the truck ok ok.... ill tell you; after buying the truck 6 years ago it was a 4cyl 2wd 4 speed that needed serious help, so... junked the drivetrain to put in 88 4.0 aw4 231 30 front and 35 rear 5.5" lift and 33's yaya i know nothing special, got tired of that cause of the renix injection and wanted to drive my truck everywhere and the lift didnt allow me cause of the driveability, soooooo..... back in the garage it went for a full makeover again, 2 months later it rolled out of the garage with a 99 front clip, 99 4.0 aw4 and 231, non vac dana 30, 8.25 with disc brakes, 99 heater-ac box, 99 dash w/ 99 column, 99 seats, 99 console, 99 doors ( :brows: big mirrors and newer style power windows :brows: ) new headliner, basically i STRIPPED and i do mean stripped a 99 cherokee and adapted everything to my truck, also took the lift off in favor of stock suspension and 235's wrapping a set of the newer factory aluminum wheels, incase your wondering the airbags and everything else that was in the cherokee is in my mj and yes they do function, probably wanting pics now huh, well youll have to wait till i get my answer as to if anybody else has gone this far in doing anykind of 97-2001 cherokee conversion on a mj
