  1. I take that back, bhelton has used a 15 gallon tank but didn't use the Dakota assembly, I wish I could find one for myself...
  2. the pigtail was pretty easy, no testing at all. I haven't heard of anyone using a 15 gallon tank yet and if I could find one I would give it a shot. I have found a couple of 1990 15 gallon tanks but didn't want to buy them if the didn't use the same kind of pump assembly. btw. I'm still not having any fuel problems with mine, its working great
  3. I decided to put one of my other mj's together instead of selling it, I need both door panels along with matching window cranks (dark blue), might be interested in a dark blue dash too if there is no shipping involved. need the shifter console for bench seat (dark blue as well) and a headliner or just a good headliner board that I can have recovered. I would like to have some headlight doors too, I have a chrome grille on the truck so chrome doors would be good too p.m. me and if yo have pics that would be great I live in neosho Mo.

if you happen to find one i would like to get the measurements from it so I could build my own, I currently need 2 of these
  5. excellent eye there, it took me just a minute or so to realize it wasn't a renix 4.0, dead giveaway is the intake and thermostat housing.
  6. besides the axle vent tube (99.9 percent sure) did anybody notice the kick a@@ table/counter? I couldn't stop staring at the pic, its like one of those pictures with a hidden pic in it. ok maybe I'm just retarded :dunce:
  7. I could be wrong but from what I've come up with is 91-99 I am assuming the 15 gallon tank and pump assembly would work to, I just can't find one. The tank I'm using is from the early 90's but the pump it from a 97 I have noticed that the tanks are slightly different according to the years. My early tank only had the fuel inlet and not a vent and the 97 tank I picked up had the inlet and vent but size is the same.
  8. I have come to the conclusion that this is the way I should have gone years ago. I picked up the load of wood the other day and over the past few days Ive ran around and done some errands, went earlier today and picked up a snow plow for my mower and just got back from getting another load of wood, basically about 150 miles so far even the last 10 or so loaded down with wood at 70 mph on the highway without any problems whatsoever, starts right up everytime and runs perfect. here's a better pic of the mj loaded down with wood
  9. I'm getting ready to go get another load of wood so I'll see how it goes but don't think I'm going to have any problems. if you guys want I'm getting ready to do this to another truck and I can do a write up with pics on exactly everything I did. so far I'm kicking myself for not doing this years ago
  10. here is a pic of a dakota 22 gallon tank with modified fuel inlet and vent a pic of it mounted in the truck and a pic of the dakota fuel pump assembly
  11. I went today to get a load of wood for this winter, truck loaded down pretty good and had no issue whatsoever with the engine or starting. I didnt go over 60mph cause the front end was a little light but I had plenty of power just like its supposed to. sorry for the blurry pic, must have shifted my phone when I took it
  12. its a shortbed, I used square tube on the first and third rib of the bed to space the tank away from the bed so the fuel regulator would clear, don't remember the size right off hand, I also cut the ends off my factory straps and went to Lowe's and pick up some strap material and welded it the Ends to make them longer. I will snag some pics tomorrow and put up for you guys
  13. when I picked up the new tank I cut the plug off the Dakota that plugs into the fuel pump assembly then when I got home I cut the pigtail off an xj pump assembly and spliced the 2 together
  14. I got up early today because I was super excited, grabbed my keys to start the truck after it sat over night, before this new pump it would take 2 or 3 times of cranking it over before it would start, I put the key in the truck and bumped it and it fired up right away, I'm super pleased so far. Going to drive it around some today to further test it out.
  15. ok, most of you have been reading bheltons 2000 xj drivetrain thread that I hijacked, My truck is a 88 and for several years now ive had the 99 xj 4.0 drivetrain and interior in it and always had problems with my fuel tank decision (modified mj tank for newer pump) somebody on here turned me on to use a dakota tank with a xj pump assembly which turned out to be more difficult than its sounds since the xj pump doesn not reach the bottom of the dakota tank, well I modified the xj pump assembly to reach the bottom of the dakota tank and it worked but ive been having loss of fuel pressure problems, only when I shut the truck off though. after talking to a few people and doing some research of my own I went out today and bought another 22 gallon dakota tank with a pump assembly, this one was out of a 97. done some testing and found out the ohm resistance on the fuel level sender was the same as an xj and i was told before that they both used the same fuel pressure, so I dropped my tank and after finding out that the dakota pump was froze up (been sitting for a while) I took it out of the pump assembly and sprayed some pb blaster in it then hooked 12v up to it and lightly tapped on the side of the pump, it worked. the dakota 22 gallon tank and pump assembly is currently in my truck and is working properly so far. I'm going to give it a little while to sit and then try starting it again and see if it does the same thing but I don't think it will. I did test drive the truck for a couple miles, even mashed on it a little bit and it did not spit or sputter or anything. just ran like it was supposed to.
  16. ya I'm kind of a hijacker sometimes :hijack: start one in just a minute
  17. ok, the wife reminded me that I had some honey dos before I started on the truck, what I got so far is the tank dropped and the adaptor harness built, I plugged it into my truck harness to test the fuel gauge. I tested it at empty, half tank, and full and the gauge in my dash read accordingly, it works perfect. The pump did not kick on when I turned my key on though so gotta do some checking there, maybe a faulty pump more updates to come
  18. I just got back from the salvage yard, I picked up another 22 gallon dakota tank, this one is from a 97 and it came with the pump assembly, I broke down and bought a new digital multimeter cause the ones i had were pretty old and I didnt trust them, measured resistance on the dodge tank and got 20 full and 220 empty, then I took a sending unit that I had laying around off of i believe a 98 cherokee and got 20 full and 216 empty. I'm no genius but I believe the dakota assembly will work without a problem well, I'm heading back out to the garage to start dropping my tank in the mj and test out this dakota assembly, wish me luck
  19. that's fun changing them manifolds isn't it? Kinda of a tight squeeze. I really need to quit putting off doing the paint work and such on my truck, I was just hoping to get it running right before I do it but before I know it winter is going to be here and I'm not going to want to do any body work
  20. I likes! Never thought about doing it like that, but I think I'd rather have one on my roll bar so I could keep my tailgate but it is super nice and a great idea.
  21. geez, can't I get a break sometimes? I went to the salvage yard just to find out they are closed for some reason until monday.... Guess I'm sol until then. :fs1: I do have another idea brewing in my head but don't know if I want to try it without another tank handy, my younger brother works at a plastics place and they have plastic welders and anything I may need, I'm thinking about taking my 22 gallon plastic tank and making it shorter in height and length by cutting sections out and welding it back together, any thoughts on that?
  22. well, I've got to try it, at one of the local yards there is a 22 gallon tank with the pump in it already out of the truck and I think I'm gonna go pick it up, I have an extra complete xj pump plus another one that I used for parts, I will see what I can come up with. I've got to try something I can't stand anything being wrong with my truck
  23. personally I'd be a cheap a** and take the stock manifold off and weld the crack, but if you have money burning a hole in your pocket then go for the header, if your going to buy something then make it worth your while and get a couple extra horses out of it. I wondered if the 15 gallon tank was taller like the 22 gallon tank is, now I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes but what if somehow you used the fuel gauge sending unit off a xj pump assembly on the Dakota assembly, just sayin if we can completely modify an old mj to run the newer drivetrain that should be simple right? I'd like to see the tiregate
  24. still driving your mj around without any problems? I'm still confused on what's wrong with mine except that the fuel tank is too big, still have the no fuel at startup issue and its getting greatly upsetting, I do not want to stick my modified steel tank back in but I can't find a 15 gallon tank locally... I found some on ebay with a buy it now of 50 plus 50 shipping but really do not want to spend that much on just a plastic tank when I need 2 of them right now. :fs1:
  25. ya i got everything, i just didnt have everything pictured. the guy rolled his jeep wheeling and was just gonna scrap the body and wanted to sell off what he could before he did, he was selling the transmission for 100 and centerforce clutch for 50 and i offered him 50 more for all the other stuff since it was going to scrap anyways.
