RockAuto's cross-reference is closer to right than the forum lore suggests, at least for the shafts. The XJ/MJ rear D44 and the TJ rear D44 use the same 30-spline shafts, and the aftermarket lists them as the same fitment across XJ, MJ and 97-06 TJ.
Two things to watch when ordering:
- Left and right are different lengths, about a half inch apart (driver side around 29-1/4 in, passenger around 29-3/4 in on the specs I've seen). Order by side.
- Kits usually come with new bearings and seals. Worth taking while it's apart.
The "internet says no" part is mostly about the housings, not the shafts. The TJ has four-link bracketry, MJ/XJ are spring-under, but the shaft doesn't care about any of that.
And +1 on confirming the bend before buying. Dial indicator on the flange while it spins is the quick check. If you do fit a set, post up how it goes. This question comes up a lot and the threads never get the ending.
